Our Favorite Blog Posts from the Past Year

Written By: Steven Higgins, Financial Advisor, Principal

George Bernard Shaw, the 19th century Irish playwright and political critic, said: “The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place.”  In no business is that sentiment more relevant than the business of advising individuals and families in financial matters.  The financial services industry is so fraught with jargon and misinformation that it is almost impossible for the non-financial person to navigate the verbal chaos, so the assistance of the financial advisor is crucial for many people.  Unfortunately, few financial advisors take the time or make the effort to focus on the most key element of the client and advisor relationship: communication.   Any financial advisor will tell you that most clients that leave do so because of communication problems.  To be fair, most challenged relationships of any kind are so challenged because of communication problems. Since 2014 we have posted 117 researched and written articles in an effort to bring education, understanding, and often reassurance to our clients.  We take transparency and communication seriously and all of our previous articles remain accessible on our website.  As we have arrived at the end of another year we take a look what has been an interesting year that began for many with trepidation and as the stock market has continued to set record highs, the nervousness for what may lie around the next corner has remained.  Here are our favorite blog posts from 2019.

Most Obvious

S&P Dow Jones Recognizes HD Wealth Strategies for Their Independent Approach to Communicating Expectations with Clients – February 6, 2019 It is always nice to be noticed.  S&P Dow Jones hosted us at their studios in New York City to film a series of interviews for their Financial Advisor TV programs in the U.S. and Canada.  The focus was on HD Wealth Strategies’ efforts in the area of proactive client communication.

Most Risqué

Where’s the &*%$! Santa Claus Rally – December 21, 2018  This just missed actually being posted in 2019. However, we posted this just 3 days short of what was the bottom of a 20% fourth quarter correction in 2018, the first since 2008.  We try to get out front and in the mix when fear pervades markets and the title of this post was designed to catch attention and get clients focused on the big picture.

Most Timely

Can You Time the Market? – October 15, 2019 Pun fully intended.  HD Wealth Strategies does not employ the services of any oracles (that we know of). However, the S&P 500 is up almost 5% in the two months since the posting of this article.

Biggest Name Drop

This Ain’t Your Grandparents’ Federal Reserve Board  – October 29, 2019 I had lunch with (in the same room) with Jerome Powell, the Federal Reserve Board Chairman.  His candor was fantastic and so was the cheesecake.

Must Read

The Facts Surrounding RECESSIONS  – August 20, 2019  While recessions are an absolutely normal part of the economic cycle, people seem to fear the sheer mention of a recession like the plague. The amount of mis-information that exists is incredible.  This post is a must read.

Every other Tuesday we publish a new article on our website HDWSColorado.com/blog and email our clients the Touchstone Spotlight.  We also share the content on Twitter and Facebook.  We’d love to hear your feedback and we love to have you be part of the digital conversation.  If you have any questions, comments, or ideas for future articles, let us know!
